Firstly: part 1, introduction

Firstĺy, this isnt a quick fix; glazing does require some education, so this page is just the start.  Modern Double Glazing, with plastic frames is certainly not traditional. Respecting the heritage and integrity of traditional buildings, really isn't difficult, whereas, thinking that the world revolves around giggle, is frankly ridiculous.

Original aesthetics

Ensuring that all glazing work retains the original look and feel of your historic property, really is not difficult, adhering to traditional methods and materials, really is not difficult.

Common Sense was named "common" sense for a good reason - think.

Traditional techniques

Time-honoured techniques, including glazing sprigs, oil based wood primer & putty, (Yes,  Linseed oil based, not olive oil, cooking oil, or engine oil) but traditional linseed oil paints, and glazing putty really isn't difficult, but does  ensure  authentic restoration work, with traditional durability.

Long-term preservation

Don't forget: the nquisitiive mind prevails, not the assumptive mind.

Stop thinking that todays methods are better, than when we worked with Mother nature, think of the damage that we constantly hear about instead.

Preserving history, one pane at a time

An understanding of historical architecture and the unique needs of traditional buildings mean that traditional solutions which are beautiful and historically accurate, strangely are not found on the TV programmes, with the "personality" presenters, but they are found, when you make the effort

Glazing was, for a long time, part of the Decotators job, as the finished glazing needs Decorating to create the finish, hence we have included traditional glazing in our Dacorating section, just as it was when we started out.

But things change, and plastic gradually took over, so nowadays only the young will be wrong (assumptive) and of course the Armchair Experts. 🤣 Watch the following vid (not one made by us, but we genuinely don't reinvent wheels, unlike today's online comedians, because we're not desperate fo likes, plus we're not that silly.

So here's a good 5 minutes worth spent:

Benefits of traditional glazing

Ensuring that your traditional building retains its authentic character and charm, for the buildings future survival, which is far more important than showing off pics on Facebook. Prioritising methods and materials that align with historical building practices appears to get ignored these days.

Addressing common concerns

One common problem is birds eating freshly applied linseed oil glazing putty, but birds need food these days just as did in the past, so don't cry about it.
