The Power of Baking Soda

Baking soda is not really hezrd of much these days, and it really is a "must have" in the home!

 

Sientifically known as sodium bicarbonate

(NaHCO₃).

 

Its a chemical compound comprised of sodium ions (Na⁺) and bicarbonate ions (HCO₃⁻). It exists as a white crystalline powder at room temperature. Its formation occurs through a chemical process involving sodium chloride (table salt), ammonia, and carbon dioxide.

 

So basically two names for the same product, making it easy to find in your local supermarket  (look in the baking section; you won't find it in the cleaning products aisles)

Even more uses:

  • Scrub worktops, sinks, shower trays and bathtubs.  
  • Floor tile cleaner
  • Tile grout cleaner
  • Neutralise odours in  the fridge, on your carpets, and even shoes.
  • Increase  the cleaning power of laundry detergents whilst helping to remove stains. 
  • A mild abrasive for whitening teeth and freshening breath. 
  • Mix with water to create a mouthwash which helps to neutralise bad breath. 
  • A  gentle exfoliator for removing  dead skin cells. 
  • Neutralises stomach acid (heart burn) when mixed with water. 
  • Helps to control pests in the garden
  • Control  fungal infections on plants. 
  • Sprinkle on your carpets, leave it to sit for 15/20 mins, then vacuum it up to remove odours. 
  • Create a paste with water to clean Brass, Copper, even Gold and Silver.
  • Pour some baking powder down your sink/bath plag hole, then pour vinegar over it, step back and watch the Acid/Alkaline mixture naturally react mixture react as it cleans the plug hole.
