Kids! I cannot teach you anything

I love that philosophy, it proves to me that curiosity is celebrated and learning is an adventure! I believe in inspiring young minds with a diverse range of subjects, all designed to make you think, question, and hopefully discover the amazing world around us, especially the secrets held within old buildings; 2,500 years after Socrates said this, it did for me 🤔.

Things don't just happen, there's always a reason why.

So in the section named "we can only make you think" I've thrown up some titles, but they're just subject matters to get you all thinking. Not for us to teach, not for us to mark, but our belief in the words of Socrates, which should be of help to anyone involved in homeschooling also.

The type of education I wish I'd had

Imagine a place where learning is always exciting and full of surprises! The following pages in this section are designed to be the kind of education I wished I'd had as a kid –  full of obscure & fascinating facts, fun activities, and engaging and the amazing science that keeps them, but instead I started 'helping' My dad when I was 4 years old and still progressed on becoming a Professor, proving that 'one size' really doesn't fit all, but having a hunger for knowledge is key.

In another role I served later in life as a Crown Officer, which I deliberately won't ever mention online, a General once wrote about me saying that I had 'an inquiring nature' (his words).

I jokingly asked him if that was his posh way of saying that I talked too much, and he replied "no, you have exceptional qualities which will take you far"

With years spent representing royalty in the UK, living & working in Ireland, France, Holland, Italy, Turkey, the Middle East, India, and S E  Asia, (while learning more) He wasn't wrong.

So dive in and explore a mirriad of subject matter, from tiny creatures  HERE to mighty structures, like some of the ones I progressed to caring for, shown HERE,  so never give up thinking and inquiring.  👍

Be an inquisitive mind

I want you to become the most inquisitive person you know! Every old building, every ancient material, and every historical technique has a story to tell and a puzzle to solve. I don't have all the answers, but hopefully you will one day.

Never be afraid to ask "why?", "how?", and "what if?". This page is your starting point to exploring the wonders of conservation, restoration, history, geography, and the natural sciences that make up the world we live in.

Don't be assumptive.

Science is everything

Did you know that science is all around us, even in old buildings? From the chemistry & physics of lime mortar to the physics of structural stability, to the biology necessary for creepy crawlies, to the chemistry to make your bedroom walls a nice colour.

Understanding science helps us appreciate and protect our heritage, hopefully after exploring this page, and the rest of this site, you and your parents will understand that science truly is everything, connecting us to the past, the present, and the future.

I have thought about this.
